ADVANCED ACTING (Creating a Character): This class will take you deeper into the art of acting by teaching you how to create characters onstage that have depth, truth and conviction. Acting is not easy, but when done right it can make an audience laugh, cry and remember your performance for years to come. Take this class and begin that next step to becoming not only an actor but a true artist!

***ADVANCED ACTING is an Advanced CYT Class. Students must have completed all three Core 101 classes in Acting, Voice and Dance to be eligible for enrollment in this class.***
 CYT Advanced Acting (Creating a Character)

Course Syllabus

 

Week 1

Course introduction

The Monologue/Auditions (Students should prepare a 30-60 second monologue for the first day of class)

Identifying classic 'characters' of musical theatre and stage

Students will begin the selection process of their 'character'

Week 1 focus will be on researching the character.

Assignment:  Research your character

 

Week 2

Students will come to class with information on their chosen character

Round table, in-depth discussion of each student's character, traits, accents, whims, etc., etc.

Week 2 focus will be on physical movement and characteristics of the character.

Discussion will include script storyline

 

Week 3

Script Presentation/Read-Through

Script will be issued and read-through

Discussion and application of memorization techniques

Week 3 focus will be on characterization of individual parts and building the showcase storyline.

Assignment:  Memorize lines by week 4

 

Week 4

Showcase preparation

Continue to work on characterization of individual parts and building the showcase storyline.

Week 4 focus is to begin blocking showcase and learn how to bring the character to life.

 

Week 5

Showcase preparation

Finalize showcase blocking

Week 5 focus will be on voice inflection, pronunciation, accents, tone and projection.

 

Week 6

Showcase preparation

Week 6 focus will be on the mental preparation when bringing the character to life.

 

Week 7

Showcase preparation

Week 7 focus will be on fine-tuning the showcase with the emphasis on exploring NEW approaches to your character.

 

Week 8

Run Showcase (Dress Rehearsal)

 

Week 9

Run Showcase (Dress Rehearsal)

 

Week 10
